Popular political policies Popular political policy suggestions for all political parties
Politicians say they wish to serve all of us. Unfortunately they just listen to government think tanks who are unlikely to have the experience of every-day life like the rest of us.
No doubt that they can come up with numerous excuses as to
why such and such an idea is not practical.
Fully recursive Mortgages - only allowed in the UK. Not allowed in
the states.
Do you know what a fully recursive mortgage is? If you have a mortgage in the UK, you have one. It means
that if your house is re-possessed and is then sold at auction, any balance
remaining is still owed to the lender.
As lenders still retain the debt as asset on their books, they will
lose nothing by throwing a family onto the streets. Leaving
local councils and rate payers to pick up the bill for emergency accommodation. With all the disruption to families and children.
Ironically the debt will eventually written off after 6 years. Debt collectors meanwhile take
their share of any surplus income over that time.
Popular solution. Don't allow the lenders by law to count any
remaining debt as an asset. This would
encourage them to create innovative solutions to this common problem. Such as taking ownership of the
property but with a right of residence at an affordable
rent for the owner. Hopefully the mortgage could be taken up again if the family's finances recover.
A tax rebate for all popular suggestion
Years ago people could look forward to the maturity of an
endowment savings policy, a very common way of saving at that time. In the present climate many just struggle to pay the bills and can only look forward to just
keeping their heads above water.
So why not increase VAT by a small percentage. Then rebate this yearly via PAYE, so everyone working would get a tax rebate in April. What a great incentive that would be to improve attendance at work. Plus a boost to local economies and holidays.
Balance of payments - popular suggestion
We buy far too much food from abroad. Yet many residential properties
have large gardens which were initially designed to provide self-sufficiency. Non EU regulation would allow supermarkets to
offer a home produced food section. Ordinary people could supplement their
income by growing food and selling their surplus produce to supermarkets.
Make bus travel more affordable- popular suggestion
If the government were serious about getting people onto
public transport in the non-London regional areas, they could give everyone who
pays car tax, a free bus pass. Just like the existing pensioner's pass, the
government would only pay when a bus service was used.
This would make bus routes more sustainable and hopefully
reduce bus fares for all.
